In November 2019, I found myself at a profound crossroads in my life when I had no choice but to take the difficult path of having a mastectomy. This invasive surgery marked a significant and challenging chapter in my journey. The gravity of the situation was compounded by the fact that a year and a half had passed since my cancer had been misdiagnosed and neglected. So, despite the daunting nature of the procedure, it ultimately became my last and only hope for survival. The experience not only transformed my physical being but also profoundly impacted my emotional, physical, and mental landscape, forcing me to change my life.
As I reflect on this tumultuous journey today, I am haunted by the painful knowledge that the path I had to take would have been avoided if my cancer had been discovered and treated at an earlier stage. This sobering realization weighs heavily on my mind, amplifying the desperate urgency for timely medical intervention.
This operation did not just alter my body; it transformed my entire way of living, casting a long shadow that darkened my once vibrant world. It stripped my identity—an identity that was once intertwined with productivity, purpose, and joy. Instead, I now navigate a landscape marred by persistent pain, chronic health issues, and a barrage of unrelenting ailments. The invasive mutilation of my body undermined my sense of womanhood, damaged my health, and transformed my entire existence into an ongoing struggle that I could not even in my worst nightmares imagine.
If the medical tests conducted by Sophiahemmet in the summer of 2018 had not been misdiagnosed, and if the oncologists at Christinakliniken had properly addressed my cancer and health concerns instead of neglecting them, this invasive surgery would have been avoided. An accurate diagnosis, coupled with timely follow-up care, would have significantly changed my medical outcome, and I would have had the opportunity to preserve my breast, maintain my overall health, and avoid the need for this more invasive surgical procedure and aggressive treatments.
The knowledge that Christinakliniken would have allowed my cancer to progress unchecked until my death fills me with a profound sense of anguish. This prolonged delay not only endangered my very existence but also resulted in complications and a dire medical outcome, imposing a heavy mental, emotional, and physical burden on my daily life, which continues to this day.
In an effort to illustrate the critical importance of prompt cancer treatment, I have compiled a variety of research studies from numerous clinics and medical institutions around the globe. These studies underscore the severe consequences that can arise when cancer treatment is delayed, highlighting the risks of advanced disease stages, more complicated treatment regimens, and poorer overall outcomes. These compelling case studies emphasize the importance of prioritizing timely diagnosis and treatment to improve patient prognosis and quality of life.
The research demonstrates that a delay of just 90 days in initiating cancer therapy will lead to severe and adverse outcomes for the patient. Illustrating that for effective disease management, any period exceeding three months will require significantly more invasive treatments and surgeries, such as a mastectomy, along with other interventions that will alter life forever.
The impact of delayed medical care is a harsh reality I have experienced firsthand and continue to face today. Had I not trustingly waited a year and a half for a promised follow-up appointment from Christinakliniken that never materialized, I would be in a much better and healthier situation today. Unfortunately, by the time my metastatic breast cancer was diagnosed, the only option left to save my life was to undergo a mastectomy, followed by a series of aggressive treatments.
The complications arising from the surgery have woven themselves deeply into the fabric of my everyday life, transforming into an unyielding struggle that I continue to face as I navigate the complexities of 2025. In hindsight, I should have recognized that not all was well when I woke up screaming in agony after the mastectomy.
However, the overwhelming fear that the procedure may not have been successful, coupled with the haunting possibility that the cancer could have spread too far, consumed me. My body was worn down from the trauma of surgery, leaving me physically and mentally drained.
The persistent weight of depression and anxiety, a shadow that dulls the vibrancy of each moment, and the sharp, gnawing pain, akin to a persistent allergy that never seems to fade, serve as stark reminders of my condition, infiltrating even the simplest tasks.
Additionally, an overwhelming sense of fatigue rolls in like a thick fog, sapping my energy and motivation, making it all too tempting to retreat to the sanctuary of my bed, where I can momentarily escape the harsh realities of life.
As the pull to hide away becomes stronger each day, in those moments, I am torn between the desire for rest, the struggle against isolation, and the battle for a better quality of life. Yet, I persist, fueled by the hope for a brighter future. It’s a constant struggle to maintain a connection to the world around me while managing the profound physical and emotional toll that has become my new normal.
I've learned that resisting the urge to give in to hardships is crucial for my mental well-being. Instead, I've focused on cultivating resilience, a powerful force that helps me navigate these turbulent times.
This is not easy, and on some days, the complications and side effects feel overwhelming to manage. However, I've found that maintaining a positive mindset is a beacon of hope, allowing me to endure the daily struggles and build the inner strength needed to confront my health challenges directly. By doing this, I proactively try to improve my quality of life and embrace the journey toward better health.
Instead of succumbing to a life filled with despair, I embrace each new day with resilience and positivity, consistently advocating for my health rather than surrendering. I share my experiences, the research I've found, and insights here to support others on their health struggles.
It serves as a powerful reminder for all of us to prioritize our health, remain vigilant in our awareness, and act swiftly when faced with the slightest hint of health challenges. The lessons learned from my experience resonate deeply, urging us to advocate for our well-being and seek the medical care and attention we deserve.
When facing life's obstacles, it is essential to understand that our decisions can improve or harm our overall well-being. At times, it is crucial to adjust our thought processes and engage in methods that can rewire our brains to appreciate the good in our lives and foster hope.
Rewiring our brains to focus on the myriad beauties of the world—such as the breathtaking hues of a sunrise painting the sky, the twinkling stars that adorn the night, the warmth of summer sunlight on our skin, and the delicate sensation of snowflakes gently landing on our faces—can profoundly transform our perspective on life.
By cultivating a mindset that prioritizes appreciation for our very existence and those who stand by our side, we can foster deeper reflections on our personal challenges. This shift in focus empowers us to confront and overcome the difficulties associated with poor health or other life struggles.
Ultimately, embracing this mindful approach enables us to strive for a more fulfilling life, enhances our overall quality of existence, and helps us find joy in both the small moments and the significant milestones.

Our health limitations can make us feel helpless when faced with physical, emotional, or societal obstacles. However, they do not define us; rather, our response to these limitations is what truly defines us.
Harness the power of your life experiences to shape your journey; never forget that each of us is a distinct and wonderfully flawed individual.
However, despite our unfortunate luck, we should not forget that our vibrant tapestry of uniqueness defines who we are and adds depth to our value as human beings, not our illness or age.
Regardless of the health challenges or obstacles posed by age and disabilities, remember who you are and your limitless strength.
Embrace the unique qualities that define your individuality; the essence of resilience will carry you through life’s trials, empowering you to fight.

Illness, disability, and age do not define us; how we live our lives defines us.
